A Court of Thorns and Roses Review:

Realistic human survival in a MOSTLY fantasy world. Humans had little to do with this book. It was mostly engulfed in the magic and rules of another world. Wonderful characters and interactions. Funny in many ways. Not too caught up in romance, or too smutty. Epic planning and pace of story. Wish that a few things could have had more explanation rather than a quick mention before moving on. I did not like the very heavy “Beauty and the Beast” style, but it did work with the entirety of the story. Overall while I can’t just give it four stars because there were things I didn’t like…it fascinated me enough to read in a single day. Very epic and well done.

Personal Notes: This is one of the few books that I’ve read completely in a single day unexpectedly. The plan for reading was a few chapters to see how I liked it, then perhaps continue on another book I was reading. That clearly did not happen as this book was too good to put down.

A Court of Mist and Fury Review:

This second book gave me exactly what I wanted from the first. To see the expanded world and most particularly the Night Court. The other Courts seem amazing but I personally was drawn to that Court and enjoyed every aspect of the characters from that location. Since the first book there were a few things that felt fundamentally WRONG and I thought it was just me and my own desires to see where this series would go. I didn’t realize it was specifically designed that way, which was sneaky on Sarah’s part and made me exquisitely happy to see this book take me exactly where I wanted it to go. A lot more smut than the first that’s for sure, but it does fit into the story where I’m not opposed to reading it. It was very cute although there maybe some confusion as to why I would use that word for it. I’ll elaborate in a video. Just like the first book I felt myself literally diving into a new world that I wanted to know more about and she delivers it. Very much enjoyed the plethora of new characters who entered this book and quickly became favorites. Completely satisfied that the main character refuses to be “protected” and is highly stubborn.

Personal Notes: I also feel especially happy about this book because the main character is looking at her life from a new perspective, and it just happens to coincide with me trying to find my new normal after very recently losing a family member. I was struggling to see myself with this new void and this book was the perfect read for me.

A Court of Wings and Ruin Review:

This book was long and entertaining. I would have changed some conversation points personally, especially in some of the character arguments, but alas it wasn’t my story to write. Seeing where it went from there was interesting and nicely twisted. Pretty much from Chapter 50 and on I cried almost every step of the way til the final Chapter. It was both happy tears and a lot of sad tears. There were a few make and break points I wondered if I could accept. Knowing how it all ends made the journey worth it. Perhaps my favorite book in the series so far.

Personal Notes: The friends and enemies made in this book were nicely woven together. I must be a Dreamer, because all I wanted was to see the victory and what would happen after.

A Court of Frost and Starlight Review:

Short and sweet. Literally! It was an easy afternoon read, and very much a nice way to enjoy my time after finishing a big project. The “aftermath” it portrayed was perfect in the sense that even after war there are always some things left unfinished, but you need that time to rest and relax. Completely felt the need for it and drank in the story as it continued to show it was nowhere near finished. I’d like to also mention there was a small piece with Amren that made me laugh so hard I cried. I couldn’t believe the details that were offered by the author but it was so hilarious I was impressed it was even discussed. ;)

Personal Notes: In reading the acknowledgements at the end of the book it’s easy to see why this book may have been bittersweet for the author to write. It was a nice reprieve from the epic battle we’d just finished.

A Court of Silver Flames Review:

Very long, and there was so much happening all at once. The sex scenes got outrageous very quickly. I didn’t care much for them in this context, but I kept reading anyways. I also noticed how we went from first person to third person in the writing which was interesting but no complaints from me! There was such a great shift going through Nesta’s point of view that was insanely good. The fact that the book ended so abruptly left so many questions unanswered. I would have loved to get a bit more from Elaine. There’s always going to be another enemy to fight, another war, but seriously the final enemy was a bit underwhelming. They build up this Queen they need to fight against through the whole book and you get about two seconds of her at the end and she’s taken care of. Whoopie. I’m not sure what might have gone on behind the scenes to rush this ending and force it to a halt the way it did, but I was disappointed. The most entertaining bit was Nesta’s discovery of power and how it helped her sister. It was beyond sweet, and that sort of thing I did really enjoy.

Personal Notes: I really feel like this book was cut abruptly short, and it should have been split into two books. A lot was left unfinished.
